Contexte La mission Gaia a été sélectionnée comme Pierre Angulaire par l’Agence Spatiale Européenne, son lancement étant prévu vers début 2013 pour 5 ans de mission. Ce satellite fournira les positions, distances, vitesses et photométrie de plus d’un milliard d’étoiles jusqu’à la magnitude V=20 avec une précision inégalée. Les répercussions sur notre connaissance de la structure et de l’évolution de la Galaxie et du Groupe Local seront donc considérables. Par ailleurs, Gaia fera aussi un relevé systématique de millions de galaxies et de quasars, ainsi que d’un grand nombre de petits corps du système Solaire.
La préparation scientifique de la mission est organisée depuis fin 2006 par un Consortium à l’échelle Européenne auquel appartient l’Observatoire de Paris. Nos tâches concernent le développement des algorithmes scientifiques de simulation et de traitement des futures données qui seront obtenues par le satellite. Le poste proposé concerne le traitement au sol des données spectroscopiques.
Lieu d’affectation/location Gépi / Observatoire de Paris, Meudon site, France, in a pleasant ambiance and environment and in close collaboration with the Gaia teams all around Europe, implying a few travels to various European Gaia Consortium Institutes.
Description
- Software project management and development for the processing of spectroscopic data
- Job function : Depending on the skills of the successful candidate, the emphasis will be put on either the first or second part below :
- First part : Java software development, definition of specifications and design, implementation, tests and validation, documentation
- Second part : assistant management of the spectroscopic data processing Coordination Unit CU6 : scientific and technical studies, specification and conception and development in java, code review and analysis, project documentation, trade-off for technical solutions, strong interface with developers, CNES and ESA
- Professional qualifications : software engineering, development in Java (or equiv.) under Linux, experience in spectroscopy, data analysis techniques preferably in astronomy, object oriented modeling, technical english, relational aptitudes
- Formation required : The candidate must have either a PhD degree (preferably in astrophysics) or more than 4 years of research/training since obtaining a degree that gives access to doctoral studies (engineer+experience).
Rémunération/wages Following the Ingénieur de recherche de 2ème classe CNRS grid, depending on previous experience (to be multiplied by the point d’indice to get the gross annual salary).
