Definition phase (2001 - 2002):
- Optimize the RVS design ...
- optical and mecanical design
- focal plane assembly (number of CCDs, pixel size, ...)
- spectral resolution
... with respect to
- RVS/GAIA science goals
- crowding in dense area
- on-board computation and data-handling
- telemetry budget
- Assess radial velocity accuracy versus magnitude, source type
and spectral dispersion.
- Assess accuracy of derived stellar atmospheric parameters
versus magnitude, source type and spectral resolution.
- Quantify the telemetry budget and devise strategies to
optimize it.
- Compute/observe reference spectra
Consolidation phase (2003 - 2004):
- Optimize the RVS detailed design
- Quantify the telemetry budget and devise strategies to
optimize it (pre-processing tasks).
- Define, implement and test calibration strategy in the context of GDAAS
(global iterative solution)
- Define global strategy to analyse the spectroscopic data in the context
of GDAAS
- Develop RVS data simulator(s)
- Assess the RVS RV detailed accuracy budget
- Assess accuracy of derived stellar and interstellar parameters
versus magnitude, source type
- Develop methods to interpret RVS/GAIA information in the context of
the galactic and stellar structure
- Compute/observe reference spectra
